Cursive N
Niece has a small n at the start, manly has one in the middle and sprain has one at the end. One font drew those three words on this page, seven more with an n, and the two letters by themselves, the capital N and the small n. The capital M of that font looks like its capital N, and both the small m and the small h look like its small n.
The small n comes up about half as far as the capital N, 0.51 of the capital's rise: it stops at the x-height, and the capital goes on up to the cap height. Both letters stand on the baseline and stay there, and across, the small n is 0.72 as wide as the capital.
Capital N, two rounded tops
Two rounded tops, side by side at the cap height, make up the upper edge of the capital N.
The left top is the bend of a hook. The hook's blunt tip hangs at the upper left, lower than the cap height but higher than the x-height. Under the hook a slanted line runs straight to the baseline, and no part of the capital lies further left than its blunt foot there.
The right top is an arch. It parts from the slanted line above the x-height and leaves a narrow gap between the two, shaped like a V. The right side of the arch is a second slanted line. This one rounds at the baseline and lifts into a tail, which stops under halfway to the x-height.
The right side of the arch, above the x-height, also holds the point of the capital N furthest right. The letter has no enclosed space anywhere.
Small n, hook and arch
The small n is an arch with a hook at its left. All of it lies between the baseline and the x-height, and nowhere does its outline cross itself or shut in a space.
The hook has a blunt tip at the left, about three quarters of the way up to the x-height, and it bends over to the right at the x-height. The tip is the point of the small n furthest left.
From the bend a slanted line drops to a blunt foot on the baseline. The arch springs from that line partway up. At the right the arch comes down to the baseline and finishes in a small upturned tail, and the tip of that tail is as far right as the small n goes.
A hook, a slanted line and an arch on both
The capital N and the small n share one build. Each has a hook, a slanted line with a blunt foot, and an arch that ends in a tail.
Tricking has the n between i and g
In control the small n comes between o and t, in manly between a and l, and in tricking between i and g.
