Fancy text is characters, not a fancy font
It is text, not a font. These fancy letters are not font letters: every character that a style puts in place of a letter or digit you type is an assigned Unicode character with its own Unicode name.
Every style has a map for the same 62 keys: the capital letters A to Z, the small letters a to z and the digits 0 to 9. In 20 of the first 36 styles each typed character that has an entry in the map is replaced by that entry, one for one, in the same order. Five more of the 36 add a combining mark after every character that takes one and change nothing else: take the marks away and you have what you typed.
If you came looking for fancy fonts or a fancy font generator: the rows above are text made of Unicode characters, not fonts.
Cost, accounts and where your text goes
- The tool is free to use: the page as built asks for no payment and has nothing to buy or to subscribe to.
- The tool needs no account: the page as built has no sign-in or sign-up form, field, link or button, and the script converts and copies without one.
- The text a visitor types is converted in the browser, by the page's own script, and that script sends it nowhere: it makes no network request of any kind. The typed text goes into the result rows on the page and, when a copy button is pressed, onto the clipboard.
Font styles by name: the first 36
Each text style has a name, the one on its row in the tool. Here are the first 36, grouped by what a style does to your text and, inside a group, in the order of the rows.
Twenty of them replace each typed character that has an entry in the style's map with that entry.

The other 71 styles are in the closed sections under the first 36 rows, one section for each kind. Five of those kinds are kinds of the first 36; three are not, and their sections are headed "Brackets round each character", "Superscript and subscript in turn" and "Letters from other scripts".
Other pages of this site have more to copy: symbols on a page for each kind of symbol, the cursive letters drawn on guide lines, and a fancy name generator.
Fancy letters and digits: what changes and what stays as typed
In every style, every line break is kept and an emoji made of several code points (a family joined by zero width joiners, a hand with a skin tone, a flag, a keycap) is kept whole. The rest depends on the kind of style.
- In the 20 of the first 36 styles that replace characters, a character with no entry in the map comes out as typed. That covers Latin letters with accents, Cyrillic, Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Devanagari text, text that is already styled, emoji and, in every one of the 20 but Wide, ASCII punctuation.
- In some styles the entry for a letter or digit is that same letter or digit, so it comes out as typed.
- Wide changes printable ASCII punctuation to fullwidth forms and leaves the space as typed.
- Strikethrough and Underline mark spaces too; Stars Below, Arrows Below and Arrowheads Above leave a space bare. None of the five puts a mark on a line break or on an emoji.
- Black Brackets, White Brackets and White Corner Brackets put their opening symbol before each word and their closing symbol after it; a space or a line break ends a word.
- Stars Between, Hearts Between and Arrows Between put their symbol between neighboring characters inside a word: never beside a space, never across a line break.
- Stars Around, Hearts Around and Arrows Around put their opening symbol at the start and their closing symbol at the end of every line with text in it. An empty line stays empty.
What Upside Down and Zalgo do differently
Upside Down does two things: it replaces characters and it reverses the order they stand in, so the last character you typed comes first. With several lines, the last line comes out first and the line breaks are kept. A question mark and an exclamation mark become their inverted forms. The opening and closing round bracket are swapped, and so are the less-than and greater-than signs, so that they face the right way after the reversal. A character Upside Down has no replacement for comes out as typed, in its reversed place; an accent stays on its letter and an emoji sequence stays whole.
In Zalgo, every character that takes marks gets between one and three combining marks below it and between one and three above, never more than six in all, and taking the marks away gives back what you typed. Spaces, line breaks and emoji get nothing added.
As in every style, the same text gives the same result every time.
Questions about fonts
What is a fancy font?
On this page, not a font at all. Where a style changes a letter or digit you type, it puts another character in its place, an assigned Unicode character with its own Unicode name, and the row holds the result as text.
How do you write in a fancy font?
By changing characters, not fonts: type your words into the box at the top of this page and they come back once in every style, one result for each, as text to copy.
